Parliamentary elections and the gradual transfer of the power is wonderful and very encouraging event, but for further strengthening of democracy more need to be done – the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Human Rights, Thomas Melia said during his speech at Atlantic Council in Washington, where Georgia’s election results were discussed.

Melia said that the election process is not finished yet, as the consideration of appeals in several single-mandate regions are continued.

“Therefore the elections have not been finished yet, and secondly… the elections, itself, does not creat democracy”, - he noted, however added that the events that are carried out in Georgia is a good model of government transition.

“This is the case, which I hope to see more often in the post-Soviet space”, - Melia said.

According to him, for strengthening democracy in Georgia, more is needed.
