Azerbaijan
has obtained a chairmanship of the UN Security Council for the first time. As
Azerbaijani media reports based on UN information center, already in May, the
issue of existed situation in the Middle East, as well as, the issue of nuclear
nonproliferation, will be discussed on the UN Security Council.
Presumably,
a high-level open meeting regarding fighting against terrorism will be held in
May too. It is also possible that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will take
part in the meeting.
In an
interview with United Nations Radio, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan
in this international organization, Agshin Mehdiyev said that the program of
the Council for May has not been completely agreed yet, but it is already
clear, that the main attention will be concentrated on the Middle East
problematic issues and the international confrontation against terrorism, as
well as, on the existed situation in Balkans and settlement of Syrian
crisis.
Discussion
of Iran-related issues is not mentioned in the May program yet.
