The 8
years anniversary of Adjara revolution is celebrated tomorrow in Batumi.
On May 6,
2004, the head of Adjara
Autonomous Republic,
Aslan Abashidze, resigned due to public protests and demonstrations. He flew
two Moscow
together with Batumi Mayor and Minister of Security, accompanied by Igor
Ivanov.
According
to the statement of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, during that period,
Adjara was almost out of Georgian constitutional space and was ruled by Aslan
Abashidze and his Russian friends.
“Selflessness
of Adjarians, a great desire of freedom and heroic courage made a miracle on
May 4, 2006 – Adjara was snatch out of Russia’s hands. Goeriga will manage
to restore historical justice as well and it will return the occupied
territories” – the president said yesterday during his meeting with students in
Batumi.
