European Union foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton express concerned about the arrests of
opposition leaders in Moscow
and the 15-day prison sentence imposed on some of them.
Ashton calls on Russia to respect fundamental human rights, also in light of Russia's
international commitments taken as a member of the Council of Europe
and the OSCE.
The High Representative of EU calls on Russia to develop democratic
institutions and dialogue with the civil society.
Meanwhile, Russian human rights defenders
called on International Organizations to recognize the leaders of Russian
opposition, Sergei Udaltsov and Alexander Navalni as prisoners of conscience,
who are arrested for resisting the police and are facing 2-years imprisonment.
