At the traditional briefing held today, Ivanishvili’s Spokeswoman Maia Panjikidze spoke about the coalition’s position on the constitutional amendments.

According to her assessments, Saakashvili is trying again to cover his decision about illegal deprivation of Ivanishvili’s citizenship.

“Saakashvili decided again to fit the constitution to his political interests. This time, the person who has not citizenship of Georgia, who is citizen of EU member countries and who lived in Georgia for 10 years, have right to actively participate in the political life of the country and got the electoral positions. Also, according to the amendments, Saakashvili is finally establishing absurdity in the Georgian legal system, violates the principle of equality of citizens before the law and deprives those political rights, which he intends to award to foreign citizens,” – Panjikidze said.       

She said, according to the amendments, it could be even possible in theory that the parliament and the government are composed of citizens of other countries. 

“Saakashvili does everything to satisfy his personal interests. Now we have come to such a nonsense, that almost every day he offers new constitutional amendments”, - Panjikidze said.
