Day News

According to the statement of the U.S. Ambassador John Bass, Georgian has important achievements in variety of areas in 2011.

According to the assessments of the Ambassador, the areas where Georgia made important progress include construction of new prisons that meet international standards, the introduction of a juror trails for certain crimes and the opportunity for minority religions to register as entities of public law in Georgia.

Bass said there still are areas where more progress is needed.

“Unfortunately, the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia remain outside the control of the central Government and access to these regions was extremely limited. Reports of human rights violations in these regions continued. We continue to call on the access to the territories for the international community so we all can investigate and address violations occurring there”, - John Bass said.
