The U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton drew attention to the upcoming elections while delivering her speech in Batumi today.

As Clinton said, the upcoming elections is an opportunity for Georgia to deepen its democracy and strengthen legitimacy of democratic institutions of Georgia in the eyes of the country and the world.

“We call on state leaders to conduct competitive campaigns, to hold fair and free elections. Creating interagency groups is a good step for ensuring that election-related complaints will be considered. Also, I welcome the Parliament for creation of incentives for engaging women in politics”, - Clinton said.

According to the statement of U.S. Secretary of State, “with the Rose Revolution Georgian people created history”, but still great works should be carried out here.

“Although you created the history with the Rose Revolution, a harder work is waiting for you in the future. You should establish customs and practices to maintain democracy”, - Clinton said.
