The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Georgia releases statement regarding the BSEC summit

The 20th Anniversary Summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), co-chaired by the Republic of Turkey and Republic of Serbia was held in Istanbul; Georgian delegation was headed by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.

The head of the Georgian Delegation, addressed the audience. In his speech he focused on the growing importance of the Black Sea region and the necessity of sustainable peace and stability. The President of Georgia underlined that the existing conflicts in the region hinder the development of the economic cooperation and stressed that BSEC should meet the new realities and challenges existing in the region.

The participants adopted the Summit Declaration.

The President of Georgia held bilateral meetings with the President of Moldova, Nikolae Timofti and the First Vice-Prime-Minister of Ukraine, Valeri Khoroshkovski.

According to the information of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Georgia, the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) of the BSEC Member States was held within the Summit, which was preceded by the Meeting of the BSEC Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) on 25 June, 2012.The Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Georgia, Nino Kalandaze presented the Georgian side. During the Meeting she underlined the developments within the organization during the past 20 years as well as the prospects for the future cooperation.
