Upcoming
elections in Georgia, opposition parties and internal political issues were
discussed in Strasbourg.
During
debates, legislators have once again highlighted Georgia’s progress and legislative
changes.
According
to the statement of a member of European Parliament, Andreas Mavroianis, visit
of President Van Rompuy to Tbilisi is a
confirmation of that the high representatives of the EU are interested in
reinforcing relations with Georgia
and peaceful development in the South Caucasus.
He
said, parliamentary elections planned in October should meet international
democratic standards.
According
to the statement of a member of European Parliament, Christophe Lizek, new
oppositionist appeared in Georgia, who has billions of dollars and his budget
exceeds the State budget.
“This
money is not used in a right way. I decided to explore this issue and it turned
out that 18 British and other companies have been hired by this man. Please not
that presence of oligarchs in politics never ends well. This is my main message
for the Georgian opposition”, - Christophe Lizek said.
According
to the assessment of another member of the European Parliament, Ulrike
Lunachek, she also dislikes oligarchs in politics, as money should not be the
criteria of election in politics. She positively evaluates parliament’s
decision regarding media.
Georgios
Papastamkos, a member of the European Parliament, said that Georgian government
continues its reforms, and the opposition has attempts of buying votes.
