Georgian Foreign ministry spreads a statement, which we offer you invariably:

”On April 12, 2012 Russian federation issued a note for the mass media, where it was calling on Russian citizens to refrain from traveling to Georgia, as if Georgian government persecutes them based on the law “about occupied territories”. Georgian president’s initiative to unilaterally abolish visa regime for Russian citizens, caused a sharp incensement of the number of those, willing to visit Georgia.

Russian authorities are obviously confused and avoided the replying step with absurd reasons at first; then they were trying and still try to frighten its own citizens with a trumped up dangers.

This statement of Russian federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows that Russian government is not only against Georgian government, but also against the normal and friendly relationships between Georgian and Russian people. This statement clearly shows that Russian authorities have a serious fear that, as a result of visits to Georgia, more and more Russian citizens will be able to see falseness of Russian official propaganda and accordingly, vicious nature of policy carried out by Russia against Georgia.

As for the law “about occupied territories”, it was adopted on September 23, 2008 after the military aggression carried out by Russia against Georgia, after occupation of Georgia’s inalienable territories – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region and after recognition of occupied regimes’, so-called, “independence”. Georgian side has officially explained the provisions of this law, through various media outlets not once and Russian Foreign Ministry is well-informed about this.

We are sure, that this another attempt of Russian government will have no result and many Russian citizens, who are going to come to Georgia, as well as those who have already visited our country, will be assured that visit to Georgia is not connected to any risk and is only full of pleasant memories”.
