Georgian Catholics- Patriarch, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will lay the foundation of a historical construction of the Iveria Holy Virgin Mary Church on Makhata Mountain today. As the representatives of patriarchate said to “Internet.ge”, His Holiness will hold a thanksgiving service on Makhata Mountain and after, will take out the first ground at the place of churches alter.   

In the foundation of the Church will be placed relics brought from holy places all over the world and from Dioceses of Georgia.

Parish from all the 38 Dioceses arrived to take part in this Historical event.

With the Patriarch’s blessing, population will bring stones on which, together with prayer, names of their family members and precious people will be marked. These stones will be placed in the foundation of the church. 

Especially for this day, with Patriarch’s blessing, an icon of St. Andrew the prophet was created, who is considered as a patron of the building processes.

The establisher of the foundation “Iveria”, Paata Burchuladze will take part in the ceremony of starting of construction. With Patriarch’s blessing, the historical construction of the Holy Virgin Mary Church on Makhata Mountain is led by him.

The church is building with a help of community and Georgian immigrants. Already 145 people have been involved in the action.
