Georgia maintains its leading place among the countries fighting against trafficking
The U.S. Secretary of State has
presented annual report to the Congress, where Georgia is still in the highest
category – the first basket.
The First Deputy Minister of
Justice Tina Burjaliani held a special briefing on this topic. The event was
attended by the representatives of the trafficking victims help fund.
According to the report,
countries are divided into three categories: the first basket consists of the
states, which fully meet minimal standards for elimination of difficult forms
of trafficking. Georgia
is in the first basket already for 5 years.
In the report of the Secretary
of State it is said about Georgia
that the government has significantly increased financial resources for
prevention measures, victims’ shelters and trainings for professionals. It also
reads that in 2011 Georgia
has successfully investigated cases of trafficking and detained 5 offenders,
their penalties were from six to nineteen years in prison.
