President’s initiative has tripled number of Russian visitors to Georgia

According to the information of Georgian Internal affairs Ministry, in Georgia, number of visitors in 2011 amounted to 2 822 363.  

As for the first quarter of 2012 year, the country has already visited by 680 thousand persons – approximately 40 % more then in the same period in 2011. In the first quarter of 2012 Georgia had highest number of visitors from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Iran. Significant increase in number was also regarding visitors from EU countries.   

There was special interest from the citizens of Australia, where 103% increase was observed. 35% rise was in the category of United State citizens.

The great interest of Russians towards Georgia is worth of remarking. As it is known, Georgian Presidents initiative regarding the visa-free regime for Russian citizens entered in force from March 1, 2012 resulting tripling number of Russian visitors.  

In particular, if in March of 2011 2163 Russian citizens visited Georgia, in March 2012 their number amounted to 6192, - is said in Interior Ministry announcement.
