The “New rights” party is asking for creating a state policy program of the Hepatitis C
The “New rights” party is
asking for creating a state policy program of the Hepatitis C as soon as
possible.
A statement about it was
made by the leader of the party David Gamkrelidze on a press-conference held
today.
He said according to the
new program the state should fully finance diagnostics of hepatitis C; treatment
of at least 2000 patients per year should be financed from Budget; Production of the generic of Interferon should be
launched in Georgia.
According to Gamkrelidze,
also, a program
of liver transplantation should be created and financed in the country and strict control should be established over
sterilization rules in clinics and all institutions, where risk of being
infected by Hepatitis C is high.
Party
leaders say the situation in Georgia is quite alarming and the immediate
measures have to be taken to address the problem.
„ Today, when Hepatitis C has turned to be one of the
alarming diseases in the world and by its topicality surpassed AIDS and tumors,
there is no State program existing in Georgia to prevent and cure this
perfidious illness. Moreover, none of the insurance policies cover diagnostics
and antiviral treatment, or even hepatotropic therapy of Hepatitis C”, -
Gamkrelidze said.
