During the official visit in Israel, the Parliament Speaker David Baqradze met with his colleague – Reuven Rivlin.

In the frames of the official meeting, the parliament speaker is going to considerate issues connected to the facilitation of the visa regime between Georgia and Israel. As reported, presumably, in three-four months a simplified visa regime for diplomatic persons will enter into force; as for the ordinary citizens, the visa advantages may be enacted in the end of the year for them.

In addition, David Baqradze will discuss with colleagues issues connected to the Jewish companies’ entering the Georgian air-market and issues of enhancing cooperation in tourism field.

We will recall you that, Georgian Parliament Chairman, David Baqradze began his official meeting in Israel with the visit to the Georgian house in Jerusalem, which exists since 2007. Baqradze gave the nuns living there an icon of the Virgin Mary. Sister Evgenia expressed her gratitude to the parliament speaker for the support.

The main topic of David Baqradze’s meeting was starting of negotiations regarding the Cross Monastery in Jerusalem. Therefore, the Speaker of the Parliament spoke on this issue with the Israel minister of religious affairs, Jacob Marg and noted, that Israeli government should be properly informed regarding the Georgian President’s initiative.

“Of course, the Holy Cross Monastery is ownership of Jerusalem patriarchate and of course, the main talks will be hold with them, but it is also very important that Israeli government should be adequately informed and involved in the processes, as the Monastery is located exactly on its territory and the state government’s position can resolve many things. It is important for us to know that Israeli government supports these processes. Exactly this topic was discussed on the meeting with Ministry of religious affairs. He noted, that in the frames of his competence and mandate, he is be ready to try to help in finding acceptable solutions for all parties,” – stated David Baqradze.

After the meeting Israeli Minister of Religious affairs, Jacob Marg told to the journalists that Israeli government is ready to help Georgia in holding these negotiations and in solving the issue beneficially for every party.

“We spoke about the topic of Cross Monastery with the Georgian Parliament Speaker. This is a problematic and cautious issue. Presumably, conversation on this topic will be held between the Georgian President and our state President too. Three sides are involved in this issue. I think, Israeli government should make its own contribution for getting the talk results acceptable for all parties. The Greek Church is also involved, but we will do everything to help Georgian side.” – Jacob Marg said.

Along the Parliament Speaker, David Baqradze, the Deputy Speaker, Fridon Todua and the MP Archil Gegenava were in Israel with the official visit.
